ANCI conference: a focus on the CAPACITyES project

Focus on CAPACITyES at the ANCI national conference, to discuss together ideas and opportunities for the future of cities. In these days Bergamo is hosting the annual meeting of the National Association of Italian Municipalities, on the theme “The voice of the country”: the program also includes two appointments dedicated to the perspectives offered by European tenders and programmes, with particular attention to CAPACITyES.

On the first day of the assembly, Tuesday, the Councilor for Social Policies Marcella Messina and Chiara Foglietta, Councilor for Ecological and Digital Transition, Innovation, Environment, Mobility and Transport of Turin, recounted the experience of the two cities on innovation, safety and the fight against poverty: the focus is on CAPACITyES and the ToNite project in the Piedmontese capital, both co-financed by the UIA – Urban Innovative Actions programme.

Second day, today, and second appointment: the ANCI assembly in fact also hosted the annual meeting of the Italian network of cities URBACT, Urban Innovative Actions and Urban Agenda for the EU, which brings together all the partner Municipalities of projects supported by these European programs.

An opportunity to take stock of current initiatives and upcoming EU programmes: Councilor for Education and Youth Policies Loredana Poli opened the meeting, which was also attended by UIA Expert Pietro Elisei.

At the end of the meeting, a study visit to the places of CAPACITyES, led by Poli, Elisei and Manuela Armati, Head of the Strategic Planning and Control Service and Management of European Projects. Numerous administrators from various areas of Italy visited the main structures of the project: the former Women’s Observatory of Borgo Palazzo, which is being transformed into the CAPACITyES Co-housing, and the former Cascina Serassi where the Hub4Kids takes shape. A visit to the murals dedicated to the Odyssey could not be missed, painted by the street artist Luogo Comune inspired by the drawings of the children of Bergamo.

The study visit ended at the Monastery of Astino, for a moment of discussion on the project and the path of CAPACITyES for the urban regeneration of such important spaces for the city.
